Time to move on: Hasler

27/11/2007 5:19:56 PM Steve Orme Sportal

Manly coach Des Hasler has urged his players not to use the grand-final loss to the Storm as their major source of motivation for next season.

The Sea Eagles enjoyed their most successful campaign in 10 seasons in 2007 only to fall at the final hurdle.

But Hasler wants his player's focus to remain solely on pre-season training and not past results.

"Next year's not about making amends for the grand final - I don't think it is I don't think it's healthy," Hasler said.

"(It's a) new season, new games, new competition. Grand finals are hard to make and I'm sure all clubs are aware of that."

"A lot's going to happen between here and September so I think at this stage, not too many clubs will be thinking about grand finals."

"It's just about making gains, achieving what they want to achieve, getting the players to achieve their goals and getting ready for kick off," he said.

The Sea Eagles have maintained the nucleus of their side for next season but will also be bolstered by a pair of former representative players with a point to prove.

Often maligned prop Josh Perry joins the club from the Knights while former Kiwi international David Vaealiki returns to the NRL from the English Super League on a one-year deal.

Hasler is confident both players will enhance the depth of his 2008 squad but it was Perry who featured at the top of the coach's off-season wish-list.

"He was one that we in our recruitment we targeted and we're really pleased to have him aboard and we think he can do a lot, we think he can achieve a lot and he can add some more to this side," Hasler said.

"He's got a long way to go, he knows that and he knows it's going to be hard but he's up for the challenge and that's what you want."

Agree it's time to move on and put this years GF Final loss behind us. Next season is a whole new playing field with Rugby Leagues Centenary Year and the World Cup.

Also every team will be doing their best to knock over the new Premiers the Storm. And with Travis Burns, Michael Monaghan & Chris Hicks having all left the club this Year.

The Eagles have brought some promising new players to the club and i think a top 4 spot or higher could be possible for the Eagles in 08.

Go the Sea Eagles in 2008
