Michael Hagan Post Match Media Conference - Round 47 April 2007
Q) THAT MUST HAVE BEEN ABOUT AS MUCH AS YOU COULD HAVE HOPED FOR ON A NIGHT LIKE THAT?
A) It was a good performance. I am really happy with the way the players approached the game and we had a couple of young guys who came in and made their debuts. I was really happy for them and I think they handled the occasion well.
Q) DID THOSE PLAYERS KNOW THEY WERE PLAYING EARLY IN THE WEEK?
A) They probably had a fair idea during the week. Timana we knew was unlikely to play, Brett Finch was struggling a bit 2 days ago so Blake Green has been with us all week - we got those decisions right and hopefully we'll have a few more on deck for next week against Penrith.
Q) IT WILL BE HARD TO LEAVE THOSE GUYS OUT?
A) It is great for young players to come in and do a job for you and that's all you can really ask for in that sense. Richard Fa'aoso made his First grade debut for the Club as well tonight. It is a good situation for the Club to be in with some talented young players - and we are going to need those blokes for a 26 week or so campaign and Origin and rep football thrown in there as well.
Q) IS THAT WHAT IMPRESSED YOU MOST?
A) I think we had a number of very good performances, especially up front. Our attitude in defence was terrific. The performance of the young blokes was a really good plus for us, Eric Grothe was tremendous in his first game back as well. The other thing is I just think we will get better as a football side. Nathan Hindmarsh was exceptional for us - he was Players Player and is obviously doing a lot of things very well for us.
Q) WHAT WAS THE THINKING IN TAKING HINDMARSH OFF?
A) He is only 2 games into his season. He could probably have got through 80 minutes last week as well, but if we can give him a spell somewhere in that second half he can get a bit more energy. That may change next week and we might keep him out there. As I keep saying - he will get better as will our football team.
Q) YOU SEEM TO BE GETTING BETTER AS A TEAM?
A) We definitely had to improve on our performances in the first couple of weeks - we did that last week but we made more steps tonight. I must say they were probably disappointing in the way they handled the football which made our job a little easier.
