Michael Hagan Post Match Media Conference - Round 2317 August 2007Q) IT WAS ABOUT AS TOUGH AS A FINALS GAME OUT THERE MICHAEL? A) It sure was. It was a tough game of footy which we always thought it would be against Melbourne and Friday night footy seems to bring that out in most teams most weeks. We gave ourselves a chance to be there at the end and just missed an opportunity and could not get back into the right part of the field to have another crack at them. Our defence tonight was great - I think to keep them scoreless for a half shows that. Q) YOUR DEFENCE MUST GIVE YOU GREAT CONFIDENCE? A) I thought the energy and effort was outstanding. I believe they had 27 sets in the first half which is unheard of in most games and scored one try at the ruck from 3 back to back sets and one try on the far side was probably a bit unfortunate and that was the extent of the points they scored. Q) DO YOU TAKE PLENTY FROM A PERFORMANCE LIKE THAT? A) Yes we do. We needed to come here and play well, that was our mission. We can leave here knowing we've played well, we played very physical and we were able to match them in most areas for most of the game. Q) AFTER THE LEAD UP WE HAD TO THE GAME WITH ALL THE GRAPPLE TALK WAS THE REF IN A NO WIN SITUATION? A) I will say that I think the people in the stands put more pressure on the referee tonight than any of the talk mid week. They got the benefit of playing at home and that certainly showed in the penalty count at half time. Q) WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENNED TO TIM? A) He dislocated his shoulder early but was OK and came back on. He should be right for next week. Q) HAGES WHAT ABOUT THE TIMANA TACKLE? A) I only had a quick look at it at the time and have not seen replays. It was probably a bit clumsy. Mick Crockers was probably the same - I think the conditions mean there was always the chance of the odd high tackle - it was very slippery. Q) KRSNAN MADE A BAD ERROR BUT I SUPPOSE IT IS HARD TO PUNISH HIM FOR THAT? A) It is his first season in the NRL and I can't be critical of him or anyone else for that matter on their effort tonight.
