Michael Hagan Post Match Media Conference - Round 1128 May 2007
Q) MICHAEL A VERY POSITIVE PERFORMANCE?
A) Yes it was. We knew they would come here and be revved up after a few losses and to keep them to only 6 points shows we were on song. We handled the physical stuff really well and stuck at it which I was really pleased about.
Q) THE DEFENCE WAS THE DIFFERENCE - YOU SEEMED TO GRIND IT OUT FOR THE FIRST 45 MINUTES OR SO?
A) Yes I think we completed plenty of our sets and played the game up at the right end of the field most of the time and you know against the Warriors you can't invite them down your end too often. I thought our kicking game was in the main pretty good and we scored some good tries through our kicks so it was a good performance overall. Our defence was very good in the middle and we kept turning up for each other.
Q) YOUR FORWARDS WERE VERY STRONG?
A) We wanted to play the game pretty fast and physical and I think our blokes responded really well to that and we knew it would be physical that's how the Warriors play and you have to match them in that area and I think we bettered them in some areas.
Q) TWO GUYS OFF THE BENCH - FUI AND HAURAKI MADE A GREAT IMPACT?
A) The bench all did a great job when they came on. Weller in his first NRL game was tremendous for us. Fui hasn't played for 4 or 5 weeks was great and a real handful when he came on. We are getting something close to our best team on the park and there is a lot of confidence there at the moment.
Q) HOW DID YOU SEE JARRYD'S GAME TONIGHT?
A) I thought he was absolutely outstanding. People were concerned about how he might respond and I think he responded in the best kind of way. It was a really good performance from him - he has been playing well for us most weeks but tonight was really good. Nathan Hindmarsh was equally as good, he is playing great football for us at this stage and he looks like he is running well and playing with a lot of confidence also.
Q) WAS IT A PLAN TO TARGET VATEVUI'S WING?
A) That's part of what you look at every week, but at the same time once his confidence was down it was no secret that we would keep going there and he had an unhappy night and we got the benefit of that.
Q) WHAT IS THE STORY WITH TIMANA TAHU'S HAMSTRING INJURY?
A) We don't think it is going to be too bad. It might just be a slight aggravation of the injury and we see him as a genuine chance of playing next week at this stage.
Q) HOW DO YOU SEE HIM IN TERMS OF ORIGIN BEARING IN MIND HIS DECISION TO GO ELSEWHERE NEXT YEAR?
A) There is no question as to the calibre of footballer Timana is - whether he has played enough football well I'm not sure, he'd need to play next week and play 80 minutes. He is probably a bit underdone to be honest but he certainly would not be out of place I think.
Q) DID JARRYD'S TRY REMIND YOU OF ORIGIN?
A) It did a bit. He handled it really well - he didn't play at it the first time and showed a lot of composure to get up and score. He has that ability to score those sort of tries and as I said, he played really well.
