Michael Hagan Media Conference Round 3

30 March 2007

Q) TO LUKE FIRST OF ALL - TELL US ABOUT THE KICK?
A) It was pretty blood nerve wracking. It was just a matter of blocking out the crowd and what the kick meant which was very hard to do and just get it over. I hit it really sweetly and it went over.

Q) HOW FAR DID IT GO OVER BY?
A) I don't care.

Q) IT WAS A DESPERATE KICK?
A) Well we need a win and we got one. There was pressure there but there always is.

Q) MICHAEL WHAT DOES THIS DO FOR THE CONFIDENCE?
A) Well it is important there is no doubt about that and you don't want to get left behind in this competition and the standard of games is such that you really have to fight hard in order to generate a win. That's what we had to do tonight - fight hard to get the result. I thought the defensive effort, the scrambling was exceptionally good and I think the same could be said for them.

Q) IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HEARTBREAKING TO LOSE?
A) Given the effort it would have been disappointing. We were looking for a better effort and performance from last week and we certainly got that so I wouldn't have been devastated from that point of view. Nathan Hindmarsh in his first game back did a tremendous job and Nathan Cayless hurt his hamstring there but did a great job and I thought Luke's performance apart from kicking the winning goal - he came up with some enormous plays and was named Players Player in what was a great endorsement for how he played.

Q) SO WHAT DOES THE WIN MEAN?
A) As I said it is a long season but you need to start accumulating some points and we opened our account. It is a relief for the players - they have worked very hard - not just this week but in the pre-season as well - it will bring some confidence and we will hopefully kick on from here.

Q) HOW DID YOU THINK THE HALVES WENT TONIGHT?
A) I still think we have some improvement make there, but I also think it was a big improvement on what we had been doing. I thought the players played very direct, I thought they were responsible for how we played.

Q) THEY SEEMED TO BE MORE INVOLVED?
A) They both took the line on a bit more which was very encouraging - it is something that they have been working on and if they can trouble the defensive line that can only be good for us.

Q) YOU MENTIONED AN INJURY TO CAYLESS - CAN YOU SHED MORE LIGHT ON THAT?
A) I think he is a bit sore. Nathan Hindmarsh has a great motor and he got through 60 or 70 odd minutes. He is a bit sore. Nathan Cayless' hamstring is a bit tight so we'll monitor that. He has not had that sort of injury before so we will manage that. It has been a tough week and the boys have handled it really well.
