Michael Hagan Media Conference Round 1525 June 2007
Q) MICHAEL A GOOD WIN SET UP IN THE FIRST HALF?
A) Yes it was and we can be happy about that. The boys applied themselves well in the first 40 minutes - defending our line at times under pressure and scored a few good tires in the middle of all of that. I don't think we can have too many complaints.
Q) THE ROOSTERS PLAYED WELL IN THE SECOND HALF - IT MUST HAVE BEEN A TOUGH WEEK FOR THEM?
A) They have been playing with a lot of spirit and confidence over the past month and we certainly did not under-estimate them, that's for sure. How they reacted to the week - well Craig Wing could not have done any more for them tonight I think, he was certainly one of their better players and that whole thing is not going to be an issue for them on the field at least. I'm sure they'll put that week behind them and get on with their season.
Q) WHAT DO YOU SAY TO A TEAM THAT IS SO DOMINANT AT HALF TIME?
A) To be honest I thought we could play better. I still thought there were opportunities that we missed in the first 40 minutes. We still scored some good tries in the second half but we did relax on a couple of defensive plays. They came at us pretty hard and kept chipping away at us and kept working hard, their forward pack was strong. We would prefer an arm wrestle and we got that.
Q) YOUR HALVES WERE AGAIN IMPRESSIVE?
A) I think they have been most of the year. Luke Burt was again good - very dangerous. Our front row worked really hard in the absence of Nathan Cayless who was a big loss for us and Nathan Hindmarsh was again really good tonight and a big part of what we do - he never stops. He made a great chase back to save a try and that is the sort of commitment he makes to a game.
Q) WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR TEAM AT THE MOMENT?
A) I think we have come through this part of the rep season pretty well. Both in terms of injuries and form. We are looking forward to both Nathan Cayless and Timana Tahu returning soon after the bye. The players are entitled to enjoy a week off and they can be happy with what they have done knowing that there is some improvement there.
Q) SOME TOUGH DECISIONS TO MAKE AS TO WHO YOU LEAVE OUT GOING FORWARD?
A) Those things always tend to look after themselves. I was worried about which forward to leave out for this game and Nathan Cayless was diagnosed with a broken hand - that stuff always seems to work itself out but it is a good decision to have to make.
Q) WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS WITH THE ORIGIN SQUAD?
A) It depends on their thought process for a game that is not a decider but I would be really disappointed for them if both Nathan Hindmarsh and Jarryd Hayne were not in the side. It is not for us or me to decide but I think it would be a good reward for what they have done and how they are playing.
