MICHAEL HAGAN MEDIA CONFERENCE – COWBOYS

Q) MICHAEL DO YOU THINK IT TOOK A WHILE FOR EVERYONE TO GET USED TO EACH OTHER AND WEEK BY WEEK THINGS ARE IMPROVING?

A) I don’t know so much about that – it was probably more the way we played tonight, especially with PJ and Mark out of dummy half. They executed plays really well and they had support runners as well, we’ve got guys that can run the football which has been a big plus for us.

Q) WHAT WAS THE MOST PLEASING ASPECT TONIGHT?

A) I think we started the game really well, we controlled the football for 80 minutes and that reflected in a good performance. Our defence was good, we could still be a little better in that area but we kept them to just 14 points which was pretty good. It was a good overall performance.

Q) HOW CRUCIAL WAS THE TRY TO RIDDELL JUST ON HALF TIME?

A) It is always good to jag one at the end or the start of a half and it gave us a good buffer. (Mark Riddell interjects - “It sure did, it was a crucial try”)

Q) WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT BURT TONIGHT?

A) He is playing out of his skin at the moment for us. He has been great all year and was Players Player again – he has won that a few times this year as well.

Q) YOU KEPT MATT BOWEN QUIET?

A) He is such a crucial player for them and we mentioned it once or twice in the lead up to the match how important he is, and with Thurston not there it a lot was going to fall back on his shoulders as well as Jason Smith’s. I thought Faumina was a handful for them – he had some good carries. It was nice to come away with a win and keep in the hunt.

Q) DID YOU APPROACH THE GAME ANY DIFFERENTLY KNOWING HE WAS GOING TO BE OUT?

A) No, not really. Other than the fact that he was not there and so much of what they do goes through him. I think the approach was about getting our stuff right and I think that the week that we have had certainly showed that.
