King opens UK accountJanuary 15, 2008 12:00am
TWO of Australia's biggest rugby league exports had mixed fortunes when they made their English debuts in pre-season matches yesterday.
Matt King almost scored with his first touch and did score later in an impressive start which helped Warrington down Wigan 30-22 at Halliwell Jones Stadium.
But Shaun Berrigan suffered a shoulder injury in Hull's 30-22 loss to Huddersfield at KC Stadium.
Returning to action for the first time since helping Melbourne to the 2007 NRL premiership, King went close with a damaging run with his first receipt of the ball and cracked the line in the second half when he out-leapt Wigan's Liam Colbon to collect a Lee Briers kick.
Warrington teammate and ex-Manly utility Michael Monaghan also impressed but limped off injured 14 minutes into the second half.
Hull coach Peter Sharp admitted former Brisbane utility Berrigan's injury was a "concern" after the ex-international was forced off in the 35th minute in his first start for the English Super League club.
