NATHAN Hindmarsh is trying hard not hear the clock no matter how loud it is beginning to tick.

But as every season draws near, it is hard for the second-rower not to think about a premiership - and wonder if it is a dream that will ever come true.

At age 29, Hindmarsh is still yet to win one and even he admits that time is beginning to run out.

"I suppose when you get to my age it does (worry me), especially after been there in 2001" he said.

"We're running out of years to get one. I'm not going to say last chance because hopefully I've got a few more years left in me yet, but it's getting that way.

"I'm getting a bit older and there's not that many seasons left to try to win one, so every year's getting more and more desperate."

But the arrival of new coach Daniel Anderson has seen the Eels begin 2009 on a higher level of intensity.

"It's been tougher than it has been in the last couple of years," Hindmarsh said.

"I think, he (Anderson) can be a bit cranky every now and then.

"So he's got us training very hard and the hours are a bit longer than what we're used to.

"It's a good challenge."

Hindmarsh has even begun a weight program in a bid to drop from last season's playing weight of 106kg to 102kg.

"It is (easy) when you've got training like Ando's got us training," he said.

"Ando pretty much said older blokes can't carry the weight as good as they think they can.

"I need to get off the chocolate and the lollies.

"A block of chocolate in bed watching movies, I'm terrible for it.

"I'll be down (in weight) during the week then, as soon as the weekend rolls around, I'm into the crap food again and I go straight back up.

"But the amount of training we're doing helps a lot."

There is a hope that a renewed, leaner Hindmarsh could also help him earn back some rep jumpers.

Even with so many changes afoot at Parramatta Stadium, Hindmarsh also has plenty going on away from the field.

He became engaged to his long-time partner Bonnie Scott over the Christmas break.

The couple are also awaiting the arrival of their third child in just a few weeks' time.
