Groin surgery for AubussonBy Dave Donaghy

SYDNEY Roosters recruit James Aubusson will have surgery this week to remove a piece of bone the size of a 50 cent coin from his groin.
It is the second time this off-season that Aubusson has needed groin surgery. Aubusson, who joins his brother Mitchell at the Roosters after leaving Melbourne Storm, had an operation in November after a scan revealed he had torn a tendon off the bone in his right groin early last year.
He started running a fortnight ago, but stopped when he complained of pain in his groin. Further scans showed calcified bone piece had formed and was tearing the muscle every time Aubusson ran.
"I thought I could have eased back into it quickly, (but) probably went a bit too quick and now I've got a piece of bone the size of a 50 cent piece sitting on the right side of my groin," he said.
"Every time I run, because the bone's so hard and it's developed on the muscle, it tears either side of it."
The injury is another setback for the hooker, who played 16 games for Storm last year but struggled with osteitis pubis.
The 20-year-old former Australian schoolboys' star joined the Roosters on a three-year deal and will replace Craig Wing in the No. 9 jersey.
He said he had no regrets about keeping his groin injury secret last year. "I didn't really want anyone to know about it," he said. "I didn't want to be sitting on the sidelines with the way the team went."
Aubusson hopes to be back running a fortnight before the Round 1 game against South Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Friday, March 14.
