Fittler approached for Origin

SYDNEY Roosters coach Brad Fittler has confirmed an approach to be part of Craig Bellamy's NSW Origin staff.
Bellamy has already co-opted former Blues skipper Andrew Johns as an assistant coach and prop Steve Roach as a co-manager as he attempts to end Queensland's two-year dominance of the series.
"There is nothing official but Craig did toss it up," Fittler told the Daily Telegraph last night.
"It all depends on my commitments but if there's anything I can do then I'd love to help out."
But ex-NSW captain Fittler said he would not have time to be in camp with the Blues on a day-to-day basis.
"This is my first (full) years as coach of the Roosters so obviously that's going to be my priority," he said.
"It's ages away but I don't think I'll be able to be involved on a daily basis."
In another representative coaching development, it's understood Wayne Bennett's preference for using some of his own staff might hinder his chances of being appointed to the Kiwis.
New Zealand director of football Graham Lowe has confirmed he will recommend Bennett be offered a role.
"I think we would be silly if we didn't invite Wayne to take some sort of role, " Lowe said.
"When you consider that's at stake, it's certainly something I'd thoroughly recommend.
"I think he could have any title he wanted."
The matter will be discussed at an NZRL board meeting in Auckland on January 18.
