Not pretty ... Braith Anasta after copping a nasty hit from Karmichael Hunt. / The Sunday Telegraph

By James Hooper | March 23, 2008 12:00am

THE Sydney Roosters remain furious over a number of controversial calls from Friday night's brutal encounter with Brisbane.

Top of the list is the decision by video referee Steve Clark to deny Kiwi flyer Shaun Kenny-Dowall a try for obstruction.

Next up is the penalty that referee Jared Maxwell awarded for a supposed high shot from Braith Anasta on rookie Broncos winger Reece Robinson.

Anasta was joking about getting the nose job he's always needed yesterday, but the Roosters five-eighth was in no mood for laughs when it came time to talk football.

"The boys have been winding me up saying I should propose to my girl as soon as possible,'' Anasta said.

"I wasn't really in the mood for all the stick they were giving me last night, but I can laugh about it now.''

On the controversial obstruction call, Anasta said: "Even Wayne Bennett and Darren Lockyer said it was a try. They made a bad decision and a wrong decision. That's all it is.''

And on the penalty against him for the high shot, Anasta added: "That was ridiculous. If that was a high shot then he's going to be giving a lot of penalties this year. It was just a good tackle.''

The other major incident from Brisbane's gritty victory was fullback Karmichael Hunt's shoulder charge on Anasta.

Hunt was placed on report and may face charges. Anasta broke his nose and would be out for six weeks if he had surgery.

"I definitely slipped into it but he didn't miss me. I was off balance quite a bit,'' Anasta said.

"I think he was going to try and put a hit on me and then I sort of slipped into it and he still went through with the hit.''
