I didn't get to watch much of the first round of the competition but here are my thoughts on the what I did see.

Titans v Cowboys
The game seemed to be played at a very high speed and I expect both teams to do well this season considering the quality both teams showed with the ball. The large and vocal home crowd was definately a factor in the Titans victory and if they can continue to draw that kind of support throughout the season then visiting teams could find it very difficult to win on the Gold Coast.

Rabbitohs v Roosters
A poor match played at a much slower speed than the Titans v Cowboys match. Not much quality football on offer and it was obvious pretty early on that the Roosters would win easily. It could be a long and disappointing season for the Rabbitohs. Although the Roosters won easily it had more to do with the weakness of the opposition than any outstanding play on their part. The injury to Craig Wing sparked some contoversy but I'm not really sure what can be done about that sort of thing because trying to injure an opposition player with a big hit is part of the game, maybe there should be a "dangerous play" law to protect players in that situation, or maybe there should be a law that allows only 2 players to be involved in a tackle.

Tigers v Dragons
The Dragons made far too many handling errors to sustain their challenge in this match and I expect them to struggle this season without Trent Barrett. The Tigers are a great team to watch with their willingness to attack at all times and it was good to see them wearing the traditional black and white of the old Western Suburbs Magpies. Tigers hooker Robbie Farrah was once again outstanding and I hope he gets a chance during the representative games this season instead of the overrated Buderus.

Eels v Bulldogs
I only saw a couple of highlights on the news of this game so thankfully I was spared the heartbreak of watching my beloved Bulldogs squandering their 20-0 half time lead to our hated rivals (I still haven't forgiven the Eels for being everyone's favourite team in the 80's or for pilfering almost our entire forward pack one year). At least we are pretty much assured of 2 points this weekend when we play the feeble Rabbitohs.

Great start to the season for my team the Mighty Eels with a great performance to prove it an 80min game.

How about that hit on Ben Ross By Manly Josh Perry (Great Hit) and still cant belive they lost. Just wondering how many people picked manly for their tips and got 7/8 because they lost, i think they stuffed alot of perfect rounds lol.

Billy Slater back in business with 3 tries against the Warriors.

I feel for the Rabbithos after loosing Craig Wing and the Tigers Loosing Benji but thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Cant wait for Round 2.

Cheers, Dippy. Smile
