Luke Williamson signs for 2 seasons

5/11/2007   By Manly Sea Eagles

The Manly Sea Eagles today announced the signing of workaholic forward Luke Williamson to a new two year deal for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Williamson, who played his 200th first grade game in the grand final loss to Melbourne Storm, will extend his six seasons at the club where he has played 114 first grade games.

The 29 year old said he was delighted to continue his career at Manly.

"This is where I want to play football - all my mates are here and I love the district and the supporters,” Williamson said.

Manly CEO  Grant Mayer said Williamson's new contract was a reward for consistency and effort.

"The coaching staff recognise him as one of the team leaders and he was one of our best performers week in and week out in the 2007 season.

"Off the field he is an excellent ambassador for the game and the club," Mr Mayer said.

Williamson was something of a journeyman before he found a home at the Sea Eagles. He made his first grade debut with the Adelaide Rams in 1997 before playing for the Canberra Raiders from 1999 to 2001. A product of Brisbane football, Williamson is highly versatile player who has played first grade at centre, five eighth, lock, second row and hooker.

He slotted into the vacant lock position left open by former skipper Ben Kennedy and made the position his own in 2006.
