IT was a euphoric victory for NSW cricket but a kick in the teeth for rugby league's centenary season.

The NSW Blues yesterday defeated South Australia outright to secure a home final against Victoria this week at the SCG.

But not everyone in the state was celebrating.

The victory means Sunday's match between Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra will be moved next door to the SFS.

The match was to be played at the SCG as part of rugby league's 100-year celebrations - fans are now left to lament the switch of venues.

But Wests Tigers chief executive Steve Noyce was remaining upbeat last night, saying: "Good luck to NSW - it means we now head next door

"But it will still be a huge game. It's full steam ahead at the SFS.

"It would have been great to have played at the SCG but this deal was done in July last year and NSW hasn't played a home final in 15 years.

"We tried to do something great for the game but it just didn't work out."

Dragons CEO Peter Doust added: "It's disappointing for the Wests Tigers, Dragons fans and rugby league in general.

"People are giving Wests Tigers a hard time over this. I don't understand why. They were only trying to do their best for the game."
